A man was arrested Friday after police discovered a large-scale marijuana grow operation in a Grafton, Massachusetts, home, officials said.
Officers executed a search warrant at the home on Kessell Street following a lengthy investigation by police at the Blackstone Valley Drug Task Force. Police said they found between 50 and 100 marijuana plants and evidence of a large-scale growing operation.
A 27-year-old Jeffrey Fang was arrested and pleaded not guilty to drug charges. He declined to comment following his arraignment.
Police said further arrests are expected.
“These unregulated illegal grow operations pose serious dangers to our residential communities. The modifications required to power these facilities create significant fire hazards that can endanger entire neighborhoods,” Grafton Police Department Chief Neil Minardi said.
Earlier, officials warned in a community alert that there will be a large police presence in the area of Kessell Street for most of Friday morning. They said that there was no danger to the public.
Residents are urged to avoid the area, if possible, to allow officers to work safely and efficiently. Expect traffic delays and road closures in the immediate vicinity.
