A Columbus man was arrested Saturday after striking a deputy’s patrol car while fleeing a traffic stop with 20 pounds of marijuana in his trunk.
Quinton Brewer, 37, is charged with fleeing and marijuana trafficking, both felonies, a Monday Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release said.
At about 9:43 a.m., deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop of Brewer’s car on Cole Road. Brewer allegedly collided with a deputy’s patrol car after being approached during the stop. Brewer then fled the scene and led deputies on a chase on Highway 82.
During the chase, Brewer allegedly drove west in the eastbound lane of the interstate, creating “a dangerous situation” for other drivers until he stopped near the 2200 block of 23rd Street North, the press release said.

Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told the Dispatch that no other drivers were injured during the chase.
Brewer then fled on foot, and deputies caught him with the help of a police dog. Deputies searched Brewer’s car and found the marijuana and a handgun.
The press release said deputies and agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics also executed two search warrants at Brewer’s home and a second location where he had access and found additional marijuana, methamphetamine and two other guns.
Following his arrest Brewer was booked at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Bond had not been set by press time.
