Suspicious activity should be reported
Newcastle Police Officers responded to a vehicle crash in the 1300 block of South Dickerson Street at approximately 3:10 a.m. Thursday morning. Newcastle Police Chief Toby Garver said the vehicle was associated with a marijuana grow burglary in Grady County.
Officers with the Blanchard Police Department located the suspect vehicle and initiated a pursuit prior to the crash.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the individuals involved in the crash had fled the scene on foot, and at that time they noted that the suspects were believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous.
They also noted that there was a large law enforcement presence in the area as officers conducted an active search.
They asked that residents in the vicinity remain vigilant, stay indoors, and report any suspicious activity.
In an update at 4:52 a.m., Chief Garver said investigators do not believe the suspects remained in the immediate area.
It is believed they may have been picked up by another party after fleeing the scene on foot, he noted.
A drone was deployed during the search; however, no individuals were located. Officers continued to patrol the area throughout the day while the investigation continued and leads were being followed up on.
Newcastle Police said residents are still encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling either 911 or the Newcastle Police Department at 405-387-5525.
