RECTOR, Ark. (KAIT) – A report of a reckless driver landed one person in the Clay County Detention Center on multiple drug charges.
Around noon Tuesday, the Rector Police Department received a report of a van traveling from Piggott that was swerving and alternately speeding up and slowing down. The caller, who was behind the suspect, provided police with a license number and description of the vehicle.
Eventually, according to a news release, the van pulled into Harp’s and the driver raised the hood.
An officer arrived and confirmed the license number, which was expired, and contacted the driver.
The officer reported smelling marijuana coming from the driver and the van. When asked about the marijuana, the release said the driver admitted to having an ounce in the center console.
“When the officer looked in the window, three pills were visible on the console,” the release said.
After placing the suspect in handcuffs, the officer conducted a search and found 2.64 grams of methamphetamine in the suspect’s pants pocket and another 75.48 grams in the vehicle. The officer also found 2.3 ounces of marijuana, approximately 30 Schedule IV pills, a box of sandwich bags, a bag of syringes and $1,146 in cash, the report said.
The suspect, who was not identified by RPD, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams and three misdemeanor charges.
