RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – Nearly 100 pounds of marijuana was found inside a vehicle during a traffic stop on Tuesday, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies stopped a white Kia SUV around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 49 near Highway 469 in Florence for a traffic violation, the department said.
Investigators said the deputy suspected criminal activity and deployed a narcotics K-9, which alerted on the vehicle.
A search found about 96 pounds of marijuana concealed inside the SUV.
The driver, Christopher Luis Rivero, was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance.
He was booked into the Rankin County Adult Detention Center and is being held on a $500,000 bond, officials said.
