NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — North Charleston police arrested a man Thursday evening on drug distribution charges following a traffic stop, police said.
Nicholas Vontez Myers, 40, was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
An officer first noticed a vehicle with defective brake lights and stopped it in the parking lot at 4310 Rivers Ave., police said. During the stop, officers spoke with the driver and Myers, who was identified as the passenger.
Police said the driver appeared nervous and gave inconsistent answers about where she had been and her recent driving behavior. Officers asked both occupants to step out of the vehicle, and during the investigation they developed probable cause to search the vehicle, police said. Before the search began, Myers told officers there was marijuana inside a black bag on the rear passenger seat.
During the search, officers located eight pink capsules marked with an Apple logo in the overhead sunglasses compartment. The capsules weighed about 2.5 grams and later tested presumptively positive for fentanyl.
Investigators said they also found a mason jar containing about 250 grams of suspected marijuana, along with a camouflage container holding a scale.
Myers admitted the drugs belonged to him, according to officials.
Myers was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
