ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The federal Transportation Security Administration updated its guidelines to allow you to carry medical marijuana in your luggage on your next flight.
As of April 27th, medical marijuana is allowed in both carry-on bags and checked bags with special instructions.
“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for illegal drugs but if any illegal substance or evidence of criminal activity is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer,” the TSA website reads.
Marijuana is legal in New Mexico but it is still illegal on the federal level. You can read the TSA guidance on medical marijuana here on their website.
