EASTON — Construction on the first full-fledged, recreational cannabis dispensary in Easton will soon begin on Elliott Road.
BloomHaus, led by Driller Ventures LLC, will start construction next week, according to owner Mae Hauschel.
Hauschel said she’s excited to open the dispensary for Easton and Talbot County residents.
“I’m a resident of Easton, I love Easton. This is definitely a community I want to serve, and provide a great business and operate for the county,” Hauschel said.
The Town of Easton’s Board of Zoning Appeals approved Driller Ventures LLC’s application for a dispensary back in January 2025.
According to Hauschel, construction permits were approved on Feb. 16. The BloomHaus dispensary will open at 8171 Elliot Road, the location of a former bank, sometime this coming fall, owners say.
Hauschel said the process of confirming the dispensary location and ironing out the details was rigorous. But Driller Ventures leaders were able to get everything done.
“I’ve been in the cannabis industry since 2013, so it’s been a long time,” Hauschel said. “I went ahead and applied for the license and as a social equity candidate, qualified and fortunately won the lottery process.”
While BloomHaus has construction permits and applications were accepted, another prospective cannabis company was involved in a race last year to get permits approved.
BGFY LLC had shown interest in building a dispensary in Easton. It received special exception approval on Dec. 17, 2024, more than a month before Driller Ventures got its special exception approval on Jan. 25, 2025.
BGFY planned for a location at 8223 Elliott Road, less than 1,000 feet from the BloomHaus location planned by Driller Ventures. According to the Maryland Cannabis Administration, dispensaries are required to be 1,000 feet away from each other.
Noah Matten, the owner of BGFY LLC, says he’s confused why the town approved another permit for a dispensary after his permit was already approved in December 2024. The second special exception approval, Matten said, led him to halt on obtaining final construction permits.
Matten decided to return his investors’ funds, because of the potential of not being able to open since another dispensary was potentially locating within 1,000 feet.
“I could potentially defraud my investors by not having a clear path to opening this business at this location,” Matten said. “My investors expect transparency and clarity in what they are investing in.”
BGYF is actively challenging the town’s decision-making process regarding the approvals to both ventures in Talbot County Circuit Court, according to online court records.
