Local dispensary reacts to marijuana classification change to Schedule III – KFYR-TV

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Earlier this month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to move marijuana to a Schedule III drug.
Dispensaries around the country are viewing this as a win. Pure Dakota Health dispensary officials say that now that marijuana has been federally recognized for its medicinal use, it has opened the door to doing more research about its benefits.
“Right now, as a Schedule I substance, you have to go through very specific channels in order to even obtain cannabis to perform the research, and furthermore, it just gets even more difficult the more you go down the rabbit hole of funding, specifically, is also incredibly tough. Schedule I funding grants are not easy to come by,” said Jacob Mittelstadt, director of operations.
This doesn’t de-criminalize marijuana but reduces federal criminal penalties and enforcement severity.
