United States
The nation’s capital loves its cannabis. Here are the best dispensaries in Washington, D.C.
Cannabis culture in D.C. is booming, even if the laws are still playing catch-up. Thanks to Initiative 71, adults 21-plus can legally possess and gift marijuana, but retail sales are still technically banned (blame Congress). That’s why most “recreational” dispensaries in the city don’t actually sell weed, they gift it with the purchase of something else, like art prints or stickers. Quirky? Yes. Confusing? A little. Legal? Still very much a gray area.
There are also fully licensed medical dispensaries, which now accept self-certified patients—so yes, D.C. residents can register online and shop same-day without a doctor’s note.
Whether you’re picking up pre-rolls from a sleek downtown boutique or scoring edibles at a neighborhood spot with serious chill, these are the best dispensaries in D.C. right now—gifting, medical, and everything in between.
RECOMMENDED: The best bars in D.C.

Best for: Neighborhood regulars

The first medical cannabis dispensary east of the Anacostia River is minority and woman-owned. White-walled with products displayed in glass cases, Anacostia Organics has the feel of a chic boutique. The choices here are broad and thoughtfully curated, including vape cartridges, concentrates, salves, suppositories, soaks and edibles such as honey, lozenges and chocolates. Browsers will also find a strong selection of local strains from Abatin and District Cannabis.
As a nod to the neighborhood, locals from Wards 7 and 8 get a 10 percent discount (as do veterans and seniors). Additionally, first-time patients and those celebrating a birthday can celebrate with 25 percent off.

Best for: Community-minded cannabis lovers
Flowerz, a local hemp dispensary in Stanton Park in Northeast, launched in 2019 to help farmers sell their newly-legalized hemp crops following the 2018 Farm Bill becoming law. Since then, they’ve made community and education their focus, aiming to destigmatize all forms of cannabis—including hemp—for its mental, physical and emotional benefits.
Situated in a darling rowhouse, Flowerz donates 10% of its monthly profits to D.C.-based nonprofits and social justice efforts in the cannabis space. Find everything including edibles, cannabis-infused drinks, vapes and pre-rolled flowers (of course).
Best for: Those who like to browse—and snack after
The friendly budtenders at D.C.’s first medical dispensary, which opened in 2013, are very knowledgeable. The flower selection is mind-blowing; there are many pre-rolls, cartridges, edibles, tinctures and CBD. If you have a hard time making decisions, peruse the online catalog before you go in to avoid being overwhelmed by the wealth of options.
The accessory choices are equally epic—from bowls and water pipes to doob tubes and rolling papers. Bonus: It’s across the street from Donut Run, whose vegan creations make for immaculate treats if you get a case of the munchies.
Best for: Art lovers who like their prints with a little something extra
One of D.C.’s most unique dispensaries isn’t actually a dispensary but an art gallery that gifts weed with each purchase of an art print. The Cleveland Park dispensary is a local favorite; D.C. artists create prints to sell and each buyer is gifted one ounce within (allowed within a 24-hour period). No need for a medical marijuana card, just bring cash and a 21-plus state issued ID.
Best for: Blunts, beats, and brownies under one roof
Lifted Shop is an art gallery and music studio near Howard University, and for every purchase of a coupon (to access studio time), customers are gifted high-quality cannabis. Their tagline is simple: “We have the best ‘gifts’ and the best weed in D.C.” The shop also delivers throughout the D.C., Maryland and Virginia regions. And if the art, music and cannabis weren’t enough, the shop hosts a cafe with some delightful treats to satisfy the inevitable cravings.
Best for: A calm vibe and a curbside pickup
The National Holistic Healing Center is almost spa-like with its minimalist design and soothing ambience. (The posters on the wall read: Listen, Guide, Treat, Heal.) When it comes to cannabis, it’s got flower, hash, rosin, kief, edibles, tinctures and distillate syringes. The vape cartridge selection is beyond massive, and there’s a substantial selection of smoking accessories. Plus, you don’t even need to get out of the car to access any of it since curbside delivery is available.
Best for: Design-minded stoners and Keith Haring fans
Legacy D.C. is an oasis in Shaw. Natural sunlight floods the dispensary, which makes it easy to relax as you browse the inventory of flowers, edibles, pre-rolls and merch. Enjoy the artwork from artists across the city that line the walls before choosing your cannabis gift in exchange for a collectible item which in the past has included limited edition spray cans, a photobook collection of Keith Haring’s work and a weed gummies cookbook.

Best for: Positive vibes, ganja teas, and grown-up self-care
Cannabis Karma, a woman-owned business launched in 2016, proudly stands behind its mission with bold “Weed From Women” branding on T-shirts. Specializing in a wide range of cannabis wellness products—from ganja teas and tinctures to infused bath bombs and rolling accessories—their goal is to bring positive vibes to the community through relaxed events and a serene shopping experience. They offer a little something for everyone and are all about normalizing adult cannabis.
Best for: Bundling your pre-rolls with a handmade candle
Step into this cozy spot in Adams Morgan and you’ll find it’s not just any old boutique. Here, a unique blend of a candle shop and a cannabis gift emporium showcases a wide array of high-quality strains. They’re always cooking up something special, like exclusive deals and discounts on preorders, cartridges and edibles. You can snag these goodies as a gift when you purchase one of their locally handcrafted candles.
Best for: Psychedelic treats and gummies
You’ve guessed it by the name, but this spot in Dupont Circle is special. They have an eclectic lineup that’ll make your taste buds dance—from shroom chocolates to mangosteen-flavored gummies and papaya concentrate. This is your go-to spot if you’re feeling adventurous and want to shake up your usual routine. And the best part? They offer secure, fast and easy online ordering with delivery options for added convenience.
Best for: Columbia Heights’ finest in-house flower
If you’re searching for a dispensary in Columbia Heights, Green Label has you covered. In-house cannabis production ensures top-notch quality, and the knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff are ready to guide you through a wide selection of products that includes Black Cherry pre-rolls, Honey-Banana concentrates and Milk Chocolate edibles.
Best for: A chill dispensary experience near downtown
Located a few blocks from downtown D.C., Rise, a Silver Spring dispensary, sits on a quiet corner opposite a small park and community garden. With its wood-sided exterior and unassuming name, it could be mistaken for a stylish coffee shop.
No matter how you choose to enjoy cannabis, the sprawling selection of flower, cartridges, pre-rolls, edibles and drinkables, extracts, tinctures and topicals has something for everyone. Roll-through pickup is available.

Best for: Soothing your Sunday Scaries
The mission at Dreams Wellness is all about bringing some much-needed calm into your world—their top-notch cannabis is perfect to unwind and ease anxiety. You’ll find comfy apparel and a whole lineup of goodies, such as soothing CBD lotions to tinctures and bath bombs.
Best for: Folks who want more than just a transaction
Downtown D.C. boasts several dispensaries, but none quite as captivating as Pink Fox. Nestled on 14th Street, this lifestyle brand turns cannabis into more than just a treat—it’s a way of life. From stylish apparel like sweatshirts and T-shirts to exclusive cannabis treats, sugar-coated gummies and cannabis butter, they’ve got it all. Plus, they host podcasts and events to keep the community thriving.
Best for: Fast, friendly and right off the Metr
Pull up a stool to consult with a budtender and peruse the many options available at HerbaFi. The store carries a diverse array of vape cartridges, flower, edibles, pre-rolls, concentrates, topicals and tinctures. Those searching for accessories also have many options, including bubblers, grinders, pipes, papers and dabbing supplies.
This well-appointed dispensary is situated in downtown Silver Spring near the Metro station and offers on-site parking and curbside pickup. However, if you can’t make it there, it also offers free delivery in Montgomery County for purchases over $100.
