Marijuana retailers and local governments are bracing for the impact of a new state 24% tax on wholesale cannabis sales, which could reshape the industry in 2026.
Last year, 16 licensed dispensaries delivered $1,815,887 in state-shared excise taxes to Branch County governments collected from 2024 sales.
Starting Jan. 1, 2026, the state will impose the 24% wholesale excise tax on top of the existing 10% retail excise tax and 6% sales tax.
