A Michigan man was arrested when deputies found marijuana hidden under a purse in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Deputies observed 21-year-old Brian Maurice Toney driving a dark Nissan passenger car with no working tag lights around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Seeing this, they stopped the car at the nearest intersection of County Road 48 and Southwest 18th Way in Bushnell.
While one deputy spoke to Toney and the passenger, another noticed a silver bag of suspected marijuana partially hidden under the passenger’s purse. Both occupants were then removed from the vehicle so it could be searched. Inside the car, the deputies found a small clear sandwich bag on the passenger seat along with what had already been spotted, the report said.
Toney was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams). He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
