EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 20-year-old man is behind bars after officers reportedly found a firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
According to a police report, Evansville police officers pulled a vehicle over near East Chandler Avenue and South Kerth Avenue around 1:40 a.m. after noticing it had a broken taillight.
Police said the driver, a juvenile, was detained after admitting he did not have a driver’s license.
Officers then had the passengers step out of the car, including 20-year-old Jaylin Woods.
During a search of Woods, officers said they found a hollow-point bullet in his hoodie pocket and some marijuana in his pants pocket.
While conducting an inventory of the vehicle before it was towed, officers reported finding a firearm in the trunk equipped with a machine gun conversion device, which allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire fully automatic.
Police said another passenger told officers she had seen Woods holding the modified firearm earlier in the day.
Woods was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and faces charges of possession of a machine gun and possession of marijuana.
