Ohio Co. medical marijuana dispensary opening Saturday, first in state – 14news.com

OHIO CO., Ky. (WFIE) – The first medical marijuana dispensary in the entire state of Kentucky is opening Saturday, right here in the Tri-State.
Those with the dispensary says it has been a long time coming.
“It’s about a year ago that we paid our fees on it and prepared for this opportunity. It’s been a long year. A lot of waiting, a lot of work to do and all those things but we’re pretty happy to be here,” Trip Hoffman, general manager of The Post Dispensary said.
Medical marijuana has been at the center of political debate for years.
It became legal in the state of Kentucky only in January of this year.
“The state general assembly passed the law to do it, some folks were opposed to it and many were for it. It is good to be first on something, but I don’t have an opinion on whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing,” Ohio County Judge Executive David Johnston said.
Governor Andy Beshear says the The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam will have a soft opening Saturday at 10 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m., or until supplies run out.
“We’re set up to be very streamline. It going to be a very easy process for customers. They simply come in, they show us their identification, their medical card, we walk them though the ordering process,” Hoffman said.
Those with The Post Dispensary say not only are they proud to be the first dispensary to open in Kentucky, they’re grateful to call Beaver Dam home.
“We’re grateful for Beaver Dam. About a year ago, I reached out to the Mayor, Mayor Paul Sandefur and asked him the question: ‘Do you want a dispensary?’ Because we had to move out of Henderson County. He said, ‘heck yeah!’ and so he welcomed us in warm arms, helped us with the whole process, the zoning, and all the things and the community has been just wonderful, they’ve been really helpful,” Hoffman said.
Officials say the product available was grown by Farmtucky, the first licensed cultivator to bring product to market.
“Our priority is ensuring Kentuckians suffering with serious medical conditions can have safe access to medical cannabis, as soon as possible, to get the relief they need,” said Gov. Beshear. “We’ll keep sharing more news as it’s available. We made a promise – a promise we kept. And now we’re just days away from the first safe medical cannabis being available in Kentucky for those who need it.”
