(New Buffalo Township, MI) – Complaints were voiced last night about the number of marijuana dispensaries outside New Buffalo.

So far, there are 29 dispensaries in the area of Interstate 94 and along U.S. 12. with about a half dozen more on their way.  The concerns were expressed during a town hall meeting before the New Buffalo Township Board.  Resident Denise Churchill feels pot has hurt the welcoming, family friendly and charming image of the area.

“New Buffalo is now known as a weed destination.  The weed capital of the Midwest or New Puffalo,” she said.

Other concerns included increased traffic and crime.  There has been an increase in traffic but police had statistics that showed no impact on crime from the dispensaries.

Board members emphasized the dispensaries have produced benefits like tax revenue used to help improve and repair roads.
