PIERCETON – A Pierceton man was arrested in Whitley County for animal cruelty after multiple animals were located in a cluttered residence.
Ralph Fancil, 53, 8121 W. Old Trail Road-92, Pierceton, is charged with cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia and reckless driving, both class C misdemeanors.
On Jan. 12, Whitley County Sheriff’s Office deputies and representatives with the Whitley County Health Department conducted a follow-up investigation at a Pierceton residence. The residence is located in Whitley County.
According to court documents, upon arrival at the scene, officers noticed the smell of marijuana from the residence. A person at the home said he was there just to take care of the dogs.
Officers received a search warrant for the home and discovered four dogs. As the warrant was being executed, Fancil arrived at the home, speeding up the driveway in a vehicle and driving across the east end of the property at a high rate of speed.
Fancil yelled at officers and told them to get off his property.
During their search of the home, officers documented the residence’s living conditions. The house was so cluttered that there were paths from room to room. Trash and dog feces were also located throughout the home. One of the residence’s rooms could not be entered due to the amount of trash and clutter.
Officers also located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the residence.
The Whitley County Humane Shelter was contacted to take possession of the dogs, as well as two birds located at the property.
Fancil has already been arrested and released on bond.
