Man illegally sold large amounts of marijuana from 2 North Jersey businesses, investigators say – NJ.com

A Sussex County man has been accused of illegally manufacturing and selling marijuana at two local businesses, authorities said.
In May 2025, search warrants were executed at various locations in Sparta, including Green Remedies on Sparta Avenue and Zenshine Smoke Shop on Lafayette Road, according to a joint statement from the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Sparta Police Department.
Detectives learned that Devin Pupo, 38, of Sparta, had been selling and manufacturing significant amounts of marijuana without the required licensing to do so, the agencies said.
Investigators seized $477,135 in cash, a 2024 Chevy Suburban, a silver bar and 500 silver coins as part of the operation, police said.
He was taken into custody on May 23 and charged with multiple crimes, the office said. On Feb. 5, he was indicted by a Sussex County Grand Jury on multiple charges including first-degree maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility, three counts of second-degree money laundering and multiple other drug-related offenses.
Pupo was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to all charges, authorities said.
“Unlicensed operators put the public at risk, undermine the regulated industry, and violate state law,” said Sussex County Prosecutor Dan Perez. “Unlicensed cannabis sellers bypass safety testing, consumer protections, and the regulatory framework designed to protect our community.”
No attorney information was listed for Pupo.
