Shortly before 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, with the assistance of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and officers with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Monroe Street in Roanoke Rapids.
According to a press release from Maj. Anzezll M. Harris, during the three-month investigation, agents identified 35-year-old Jamonte Gorham selling illegal drugs in the community. During the execution of the search warrant, agents located Gorham inside the home attempting to destroy and hide narcotics.
Agents located approximately 3,015 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 847 grams of suspected marijuana, approximately 10 grams of suspected cocaine and a handgun.
A record check of Gorham indicated that he is a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to sell and deliver fentanyl, possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of Schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling, obstructing justice and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Gorham was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $75,000 bond and received a March 3 court date.
The Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force is comprised of deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department. This partnership allows for more manpower and resources to help combat the war on illegal drugs in Halifax County.
