A Summerfield man was arrested with marijuana after being stopped with a license suspended for unpaid court obligations.
A deputy observed a grey 2003 Ford F-150 heading north on U.S. Hwy. 441 near the entrance to Oaklands Hills at County Road 109 around 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed the registered owner, 36-year-old Justin Gregg Crouch, had a suspended license, leading to a traffic stop.
Crouch had only the vehicle’s registration and stated he lost his driver’s license. But a check of his driving history confirmed his license had been suspended indefinitely as of Jan. 20 for six failures to pay court-ordered financial obligations. He also had a prior conviction for driving while license suspended from Dec. 5, 2012, the report said.
When asked about this, Crouch advised that although he lost the physical license, he knew his driving privilege was currently suspended. As such, he was handcuffed and put in the back of a patrol vehicle. A search of his own vehicle followed, during which the deputy found three bags of marijuana in the center console, the report said.
Crouch was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
