RHINEBECK — New York State cannabis regulators have padlocked an alleged illegal cannabis shop in Rhinebeck after seizing more than 180 pounds of untested products valued at more than $900,000, the Office of Cannabis Management said.
Investigators with OCM’s Enforcement and Investigations Division inspected what the agency described as an illicit growing, processing and retail operation in Dutchess County on Feb. 10. The shop was allegedly being used to grow, process, store and sell cannabis products outside the state’s regulated market, OCM said in a news release.
Investigators recovered 105 pounds of cannabis flower, 73 pounds of edibles and 5 pounds of cannabis concentrate, the agency said. The location was issued an order to seal and was padlocked.
“These enforcement actions send a clear message that illegal cannabis operations anywhere in New York will be investigated and dealt with,” Daniel Haughney, OCM’s director of enforcement and investigations, said in a statement. “Whether in major cities like New York, or in rural communities like Rhinebeck, our investigators work every day to shut the illegal operators down. Actions like these help restore confidence in our regulated market and keep these communities safe, which is our top priority.”
In 2026 alone, OCM closed 22 illegal cannabis shops, adding to the 557 illicit storefronts shut down across New York State.
“New York State has rules in place that protect the health and safety of New Yorkers, and we will continue to take decisive action to shut down illegal operations that put our communities at risk and undermine New York’s legal industry and the hundreds of small businesses that are following the law,” Governor Kathy Hochul said in a written statement.
OCM said legal dispensaries must follow strict rules, including mandatory age verification and restrictions on product displays visible to minors.
