KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said a repeat drug trafficker has been arrested following a chase on Monday.
According to KCSO, Marquis Gilbert, of Detroit, Michigan, was pulled over for a traffic stop. When detectives asked him to step out of his car, he fled from the scene and led officers on a dangerous pursuit.
During the chase, KCSO said Gilbert tried to throw narcotics from the car before driving onto a dead-end road, where the pursuit ended.
KCSO said detectives executed a search warrant at Gilbert’s home and recovered 13 pounds of marijuana, $20,000 in drug money, two handguns and 15 grams of suspected morphine pills.
“The Knox County Sheriff’s Office takes every narcotics trafficking case seriously, but when a repeat offender chooses to endanger the lives of our citizens in an effort to escape accountability, that danger only strengthens our resolve,” KCSO Chief of Detectives David Amburn said. “Our detectives remain committed to protecting this community and holding offenders fully responsible for their actions.”
Gilbert has now been arrested five times by KCSO since 2022 for narcotics-related crimes and pursuits. He was also on probation for his previous offenses, KCSO said.
