Alabama mother arrested after loose bits of marijuana found in kindergartener’s Christmas candy – AL.com
An Alabama mother is behind bars after authorities say marijuana residue was found in Christmas candy bags sent to her child’s kindergarten class.
Karima Frasier, 26, of Brewton, is charged with distribution/sale of a controlled substance to a minor and chemical endangerment of a minor.
Her bond is set at $300,000 according to court records.
Brewton Police Chief Matthew Jordan said police were contacted Friday by Brewton Elementary School after the candy bags distributed to students were found to contain what appeared to be marijuana shake, or loose bits of residue of the drug.
School officials reported that the clear candy bags had been brought to a classroom on December 18 by Frasier for the class Christmas party.
Later that night, a parent of one of the students saw particles inside a candy bag that appeared to be marijuana and immediately notified school officials.
The chief said investigators collected four separate candy bags that contained suspected marijuana residue mixed with wrapped candy.
Frasier was taken into custody at noon Friday and remains held in the Escambia County Jail.
Police officials worked with school administrators to notify all parents to prevent any possible ingestion of the illicit substance, Jordan said.
None of the students have reported feeling ill.
Investigators don’t believe the mother intentionally sent the bags with the marijuana shake but said it’s something they take seriously.
The investigation is ongoing.
