Law enforcement agencies arrested a Reno man earlier this month after seizing a large quantity of illegal narcotics during a multi-agency investigation, authorities said.
In early January , detectives with the Regional Narcotics Unit, Nevada State Police Investigation Division (Tri-NET) and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team received information indicating a suspect would be transporting a significant amount of illegal drugs into the region. Investigators initiated surveillance and later detained the suspect in the area of South Virginia Street and Mt. Rose Street in Reno.
Authorities said the suspect was found in possession of approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine, 1.25 pounds of marijuana, and $8,074 in cash. The methamphetamine seized has an estimated street value of more than $223,000, according to investigators.
The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Smiley Martin of Reno. He was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, trafficking of a controlled substance and transportation of a controlled substance.
The investigation remains ongoing.
