DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – Douglas County is boosting its fight against illegal marijuana activity with a significant grant renewal.
According to the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission, the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) has secured a $1,945,652 grant from the Illegal Marijuana Market Enforcement Grant Program. This funding will support enforcement efforts in Douglas County through August 2027.
These funds will enhance DINT’s capabilities to tackle illegal marijuana cultivation and distribution, which pose threats to public safety and the environment. The grant covers personnel, equipment, and collaborative efforts with local, state, and federal partners.
Lieutenant Rick McArthur of DINT highlighted the importance of the grant.
“This funding gives us the tools necessary to address complex, multi-jurisdictional cases and to protect our communities from the impacts of illegal marijuana operations,” McArthur said.
The Illegal Marijuana Market Enforcement Grant Program was initiated in 2018 and aids local law enforcement in addressing unlawful marijuana activities. These operations are often linked to environmental harm and other crimes, emphasizing the need for robust enforcement.
Commissioner Freeman expressed confidence in DINT’s efforts, noting their high drug plant seizure rates in Oregon. This grant reflects continued commitment to effective drug enforcement in Douglas County.
DINT, formed in 1989, is a collaboration among multiple agencies, including the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police. Their mission focuses on enforcing controlled substance laws and providing training to local police and fire departments.
