GILLETTE, Wyo. — A 47-year-old man is facing multiple drug possession charges after deputies found what they believed to be controlled substances during a traffic stop and then found more suspected drugs while booking him into the Campbell County Detention Center.
Scott Patrick Gregory, born in 1978, was arrested Jan. 20, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The deputy stopped a 2008 Jeep Liberty around 3:37 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14/16 and Butler Spaeth Road after seeing the car had an expired license plate. Gregory told the deputy he had recently bought the vehicle and provided his registration but couldn’t provide proof of insurance.
Another deputy arrived with a K-9 to conduct a free-air sniff around the car, and the K-9 alerted to narcotics, which led the deputies to search the car.
Officers found a glass vial containing suspected cocaine base in a cupholder. Another glass vial with suspected crack cocaine and a jeweler’s bag of suspected powdered cocaine were also found in the center console. In a backpack, a marijuana grinder was found as well as an unopened dispensary package containing a THC oil cartridge with 1 gram. A third vial of suspected crack cocaine was found as well.
Gregory was taken into custody and taken to the detention center, where he was warned twice about the legal consequences of bringing any controlled substances into a jail and denied having any. During intake, two jeweler’s bags were found in his back pants pocket. These bags contained 0.65 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 0.39 grams of suspected powdered cocaine, the report states.
The total weight of all the seized substances was below the 3-gram threshold that makes it a felony offense. Gregory is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for powdered cocaine, possession of cocaine base in an amount greater than five-tenths of a gram, possession of marijuana, possession of liquid THC in an amount greater than three-tenths of a gram, and two counts of bringing a controlled substance into a detention center. He is also charged with a traffic violation for not having insurance.
Gregory is presumed innocent until he pleads or is proven guilty in a court of law.
