FINDLAY, Ohio — Marijuana dispensaries are now operating in Findlay for the first time. Earlier this year, city leaders lifted a long-standing ban, clearing the way for two new locations.
One of them, Trulieve, a medical and recreational marijuana dispensary, opened its doors for the first time on Friday.
“Originally when the program first started, there was a ban here in Findlay, but the citizens and community outreach to the local municipality really wanted it. It was a program that was going to help a lot of our patients, a lot of our consumers, bringing another form of medication to the community,” said Mac Amin, state director for Trulieve.
Findlay previously had a moratorium on medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries. But after statewide legalization in 2023, City Council updated zoning laws to allow dispensaries as conditional uses in commercial districts in March this year.
“City council passed that and then kind of just reiterated the guidance that the state had provided on the restrictions of advertising, location, proximity to schools, etc., and that we updated that and then allowed that [dispensaries] within the community to be permitted,” said Mayor Christina Muryn.
Amin says the process moved quickly — with approvals and construction coming together in just a matter of weeks starting in October.
“We fast-tracked the location, fast-tracked the construction to be open here in December, right before the turn of the new year, because the outreach from the community was so high. We wanted to make sure that we were here serving our patients as quickly as possible,” said Amin.
It’s the first one in Findlay but won’t be the last. Zoning changes permitted two dispensaries within city limits, and a second dispensary will open its doors in the near future.
