First licensed medical marijuana dispensary opens in Kentucky – WLWT
Two years after Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear signed a bill to legalize medical cannabis, the state’s first licensed dispensary opened over the weekend.
The Post Dispensary opened its doors in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, on Saturday. It’s located about 110 miles southwest of Louisville.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the store had a limited supply of product upon opening and is expected to sell out.
“This news makes Saturday the first day that safe, regulated medical cannabis is available to patients, and it makes The Post our first fully approved and licensed medical dispensary in the state,” Beshear said, according to WLKY. “Our priority is ensuring Kentuckians suffering with serious medical conditions like cancer, PTSD, EMS and others can now have access to safe medical cannabis.”
In October, Beshear said approved medical marijuana growers were preparing for their first harvest and some labs were ready to test when the products became available.
Kentucky is one of 38 states to legalize medical marijuana, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nearly 24,000 Kentuckians have been approved for medical marijuana cards.
