A Lafayette man was arrested on Dec. 18 for alleged marijuana and drug possession, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Officers reportedly followed a car to a laundromat on North 6th Street after smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from it.
When asked about the smell, the driver said their passenger, Christian Williams, 41, had just finished smoking a blunt. The driver also said the passenger had pills in the car.
The officer reportedly found a bottle containing about 37 hydrocodone pills weighing about 16 grams in the center console of the car. The officer also reportedly found two containers of THC wax near the console and a marijuana blunt on the front seat.
After the police asked Williams to step out of the car he choked and spat out roughly 30 hydrocodone pills. He said he was trying to swallow them since he did not have a prescription for them, the affidavit said.
Officers searched his phone and found many text message conversations between Williams and the driver regarding the pills. The driver admitted that the pills in the center console belonged to him, and that he had bought them from Williams. Williams said he had been purchasing them for about nine months.
Williams is currently facing two counts of dealing in a narcotic drug, one count of possession of a narcotic drug, and one count of obstruction of justice. Williams is also being charged with misdemeanors of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Williams was also charged for possession of marijuana in 2008, 2013, 2015, and 2019 according to MyCase.
He was also convicted for sexual misconduct with a minor in 2005, according to MyCase.
Williams is currently being held at the Tippecanoe County Jail for a $150,000 bond, according to jail logs Monday night.
