In the 1930s Edgar J. Hoover, head of the FBI, ran a huge propaganda campaign against marijuana.
The premier is following in Hoover’s footsteps.
Today’s headlines in Nova Scotia might read “Fentanyl, money laundering, human trafficking all connected to the marijuana dispensaries.”
The RCMP has stated that none of this is true.
Miia Suokonautio, head of the YWCA in Halifax, an organization that works with those caught up in human trafficking, has stated in the past that a connection hasn’t been seen between human trafficking and marijuana.
All the homeless shelters are equipped with Naloxone, an overdose prevention drug.  Naloxone kits are also available to take home.
There are no kits for marijuana, because people are not dying from marijuana. People who try marijuana and have a bad experience, such as paranoia, anxiety or vomiting, normally don’t try it again.
Is it the premier’s plan to give every citizen a Naloxone kit to combat the Nova Scotia drug problems?  These are the drugs that are killing our citizens, driving up crime in Nova Scotia and are connected to human trafficking.
There are no stats available for 2025, to my knowledge, but in 2023 there were 63 drug-related deaths in Nova Scotia. Pictou County, Colchester County and Cumberland County combined, reported there were 150 drug-related emergency visits. I doubt if these stats have dropped since 2023. In 2023 there were 571 deaths due to alcohol, with thousands of alcohol-related hospital visits.
Nova Scotia high school and university students have the distinction of drinking more alcohol than any other province.
Gamblers have the highest rate of suicide than any other addiction, yet Tim Houston allows our province to be filled with gambling machines.
When the government has to earn money from the misery of others, well, that’s sad.
Would the premier of Nova Scotia be willing to call a plebiscite: Question 1: Would you prefer the government spend money, time and energy trying to break the dispensaries or would you prefer to see the government spend money, time and energy going after those who are filling our province with cocaine, crack, heroin and all the other drugs that are killing our people?
Tim Houston, in my opinion, should stop cleaning the closet when the rest of his house is in such disarray.
