Construction on a new recreational marijuana dispensary can begin in Colerain Township.
It comes after the township had previously banned dispensaries.
In order for the dispensary to be built, the township is adding a condition that any dispensary must agree to pay the township directly to remain open, as well as give the township a percentage of its sales.
The board of trustees says this move will ensure that more money is going directly to the township and not just the state.
“The state has not released any of the funds. So we’ll get $60,000 before they even unlock the place,” Colerain Township trustee Matt Wahlert said during a board meeting. “I’m glad that we can make off the development to use to reduce the tax burden of the township.”
The dispensary will be located on Colerain Ave., near Banning Road.
It is expected to open in six months and will be allowed to operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
