WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island cannabis regulators slap a cultivation operation in Warwick with a hefty fine and order it to stop selling marijuana for a month.
The penalties come after an inspection of Ocean State Curated Cannabis (OSCC) in November found more than 35,600 grams, or more than 78 pounds, of untagged marijuana product plus two large trash bags of untagged product, according to a consent agreement between the facility and the State of Rhode Island Cannabis Office.
Inspections also revealed incorrectly tagged cannabis product, according to the document.
State law requires cannabis products at licensed facilities to be tagged and tracked.
The consent agreement signed at the end of December requires OSCC to pay a $70,000 penalty to the state, stop selling cannabis product for 30 days from Feb. 1 to March 3, and destroy the untagged or improperly tagged cannabis.
In a statement to NBC 10, OSCC Chief Operating Officer Victoria Leonard wrote:
OSCC is run by a team of passionate individuals with deep experience in the cannabis industry and we take compliance seriously. The necessary corrections were unrelated to our product quality and had no impact on health and safety. There was absolutely no product diversion or any malicious intent. Our team has already made the necessary corrections to ensure we are in line with the updated CCC regulations and guidance concerning inventory tracking in the Metrc system. We're grateful for the support we've received from our partners and patrons during this process. Our high-quality cannabis products are still available at dispensaries throughout Rhode Island, and we look forward to growing our footprint throughout 2026 and beyond.
