A Michigan man was arrested with marijuana edibles in his lunchbox.
David Lee Merryman, 66, of Wyoming, Mich., was driving a white Chrysler sedan with Michigan license plate at about 9 p.m. Monday on State Road 44 near County Road 229 when a deputy noticed the vehicle had its high-beam lights on, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy also noticed the vehicle had sustained “significant front-end damage.” The deputy watched as the driver failed to turn down his high-beam lights when encountering other motorists.
During a traffic stop, Merryman was identified by his Michigan driver’s license. He told the deputy his car previously had been involved in a crash and due to the damage, he had to use the high-beam lights. When the deputy was near the vehicle, the deputy noticed the “overbearing odor of marijuana.”
A search of the vehicle turned up a metal smoking pipe with the burnt residue of marijuana. The deputy also found a mesh-style lunchbox which contained several Ziploc bags. Some of the bags contained leafy marijuana. The lunchbox also contained marijuana edibles.
Merryman was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,500.
