The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission approved a new round of emergency regulations Monday night. Nebraska voters approved medical marijuana in the November 2024 election.
Commissioners also approved one cultivator license during their meeting. They are still tweaking some of the rules regarding applications for the supply process.
Nebraska’s medical cannabis program is one of the most restrictive in the country. Advocates spoke at the regular meeting, urging the commission to help those who need it.
“I have one young lady at the age of 29 that is unable to work because she suffers from seizures, said Melanie Knight. “When she uses medical cannabis, those seizures go away.”
The commission said the new emergency regulations will go into effect as soon as Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen signs them. Commissioners will also hold a second hearing on the new rules.
They also voted to create a standalone website. Currently, information for the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission is listed on the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission’s website.
