A speeding driver was arrested with marijuana and beer in The Villages.
Andrew Stephen Platt, 24, of the Village of Alhambra, was driving a gray Kia passenger car at about 11 a.m. Sunday when he was caught on radar traveling at 58 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone on El Camino Real near the Village of Santo Domingo, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
During a traffic stop, the Indiana native claimed he did not have his driver’s license with him. A check of Platt’s name and birth date in the computer database revealed that he is currently on probation for resisting arrest with violence.
A vape pen was spotted in the vehicle and Platt admitted it contained marijuana. The substance in the vape pen was confirmed to contain THC, after a field test was conducted by the deputy. Platt had a medical marijuana card, but it had expired in August. The deputy also spotted a box of Miller Lite beer in the back seat of the vehicle. The box contained three full unopened beer.
Platt was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center, due to the probation violation. In addition, Indiana has placed a hold on his custody.
