MARION, Iowa — A man wanted in connection with a murder in Illinois was arrested Friday night in Marion after police responded to a disturbance call.
According to police, officers were called to a report of an intoxicated person. When they arrived, they found a man who later was identified as 56-year-old Christopher Maxwell.
Police said Maxwell initially gave officers a false name and date of birth. However, someone at a home on South 12th Street later identified him, allowing officers to confirm his identity.
Maxwell was taken to the Linn County Jail, where officers said he was found to be in possession of marijuana. Maxwell has a long list of past charges including strangulation and identity theft.
Details about the murder charge Maxwell faces in Illinois have not yet been released. Police said they are working to obtain more information, and the investigation remains ongoing.
