MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – A law legalizing personal possession and home cultivation of marijuana in Vermont was signed on this day in history.
Gov. Phil Scott signed the law on Jan. 22, 2018.
Vermont was the first state to do so through legislation and not a voter referendum.
The law took effect in July of that year. Four years later, lawmakers authorized retail sales of cannabis.
