JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE) – Investigators in Jackson Parish arrested a man on Wednesday April 29 following a “prolonged investigation”, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
James Ronyez Jones was arrested and charged with four counts of distribution of synthetic marijuana and one count each of possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
While executing two search warrants, investigators found 12 pounds of synthetic marijuana, also known as “mojo,” a firearm and a money counter, deputies said.
“Our office will continue working to remove dangerous drugs and weapons from our communities,” Sheriff Brent Barnett said. “Synthetic marijuana has caused serious problems in communities across the state, and we take these cases seriously.”
According to the sheriff’s office, synthetic marijuana is especially dangerous because it is often made with chemical compounds that can vary greatly in strength and effect. Users may experience severe reactions, including extreme agitation, hallucinations, seizures, overdose symptoms and other serious medical emergencies.
