DALLAS — A 25-year-old woman was arrested at Dallas Love Field Thursday after an airline partner discovered a massive haul of marijuana inside a broken suitcase, authorities said.
The Dallas Police Department Narcotics Unit responded to the airport on April 30 after being alerted by airline staff. According to police, a suitcase on a flight arriving from Las Vegas had broken open, revealing a large quantity of marijuana hidden inside.
Upon further investigation, narcotics detectives uncovered two additional suitcases. Inside the luggage, officers found marijuana packaged into vacuum-sealed pouches, police said.
In total, police seized 75 pounds of the illegal drug.
“Our public safety mission includes protecting Dallas from being used as a drug transportation hub,” the department said in a social media post.
Detectives identified the passenger as Jennifer Manzanares-Herrera. Officers took the 25-year-old into custody before she was able to leave the airport grounds.
Manzanares-Herrera has been charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds. Under Texas law, this offense is classified as a second-degree felony.
Police did not release further details regarding the airline involved or the suspect’s bond status.
