Arkansas State Police say two interstate traffic stops led to drug arrests involving fentanyl, marijuana, a firearm, and cash in separate investigations.
Arkansas State Police say two traffic stops on major interstates led to separate drug arrests and the seizure of fentanyl, marijuana, a firearm, and cash.
According to state police, the first arrest happened Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 30 near Gurdon.
Troopers say a vehicle traveling eastbound was stopped for a traffic violation, and a search of the car led to the discovery of one kilogram of fentanyl hidden inside a backpack in the trunk.
The driver, 19-year-old Justin Rosas of California, was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on felony charges of fentanyl trafficking.
Investigators say Rosas told them he was traveling from California to Nashville, Tennessee.
About 45 minutes later, another traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Pope County led to a second arrest.
Troopers say they found 24 pounds of individually packaged marijuana, 120 marijuana plants, a Glock handgun, and more than 3,500 dollars in cash inside the bed of a pickup truck.
The driver, 59-year-old Michael Scott Legate, was arrested and booked into the Pope County Detention Center.
He faces felony charges including possession with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.
Investigators say Legate told them he was traveling from Tulsa to Tennessee.
