Ahava is not only the Hebrew word for “Love,” it’s also the inspiration behind the name and message of AVA Flower Co. in Lenox Hill.
“We’re purveyors of love, we like to tell people,” said the partners at AVA Flower Co. “There’s a lot of love in each shop. Love is the glue that connects all of us here. We all love cannabis, and we love our community.”
The partners at AVA Flowers Co. felt a need to open their shop, because they say other cannabis shops in the city were missing a boutique style. They remember growing up going to cannabis shops, and being greeted at the door with a friendly atmosphere, something lacking in the modern day.
At AVA Flower Co., they aim for their budtenders, employees who work at cannabis shops, to develop personal relationships with their customers. They hope to provide personalized recommendations to patrons, and create an inviting environment.

“Our intentions are pure, we didn’t get into this just for the sake of profit,” said the partners. “We got into this because there is a personable experience and portion of this industry. We’re your friendly neighborhood licensed cannabis dispensary.”
The partners aim for customers to always feel safe in the shop. They don’t want it to feel intimidating, with a biker and graffiti vibe, or a vibe they liken to looking like the Apple Store.
“We don’t feel that’s what cannabis is. We feel it’s more of a higher-end boutique style,” they said. “A 65-year-old woman might not know what she wants. But you know what she does want? She wants to be able to walk in and feel welcome, safe.”

In recent years, the consumption of cannabis has become more normalized. The negative connotation behind cannabis is slowly diminishing. “People associate weed with the stoner. It’s not associated with a healer,” they said. “Transition is happening.”
The partners feel immense pride in being based in New York, where they are both born and raised. “I want to support local, I want to support my own,” they said. They share that they want to support their fellow New Yorkers, and want to ensure they have safe and affordable cannabis.”
AVA Flowers Co. plans on celebrating National Weed Day, also known as 4/20, on April 20. They will be hosting a plethora of pop-ups, deals for upcoming days, a DJ and even ice cream. “4/20 is our Christmas,” they said.
You can find AVA Flowers Co. at 1280 1st Ave, and on Instagram @avaflowerco.
