Boston’s first recreational marijuana dispensary has suddenly gone dark—and it’s leaving a lot of questions behind.
According to Boston 25 News, Pure Oasis in Grove Hall abruptly shut down earlier this month, catching employees completely off guard. Staff says they received an email saying the closure was effective immediately—no warning, no final shifts—just like that, their jobs were gone.
Now, many of those workers say they’re scrambling. Some are having trouble filing for unemployment because they claim the company hasn’t responded to state verification requests, while others say they haven’t been able to get back inside the building to retrieve personal belongings.
Behind the scenes, financial trouble appears to have been building. The dispensary is facing multiple lawsuits tied to unpaid vendors, including a recent judgment totaling more than $2 million.
The company’s owner acknowledged the shutdown has been difficult, pointing to economic pressures, increased competition, and rising costs—but said they are exploring ways to potentially reopen.
