CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — A jury has now been selected in the attempted murder trial of Camile Jade Flores, the woman accused in a 2020 Charleston County shooting prosecutors say stemmed from a marijuana deal.
After jurors were dismissed Tuesday, attorneys spent hours arguing motions ahead of opening statements expected Wednesday morning.
Prosecutors allege Flores helped arrange a marijuana deal with 20-year-old Jermaine Snyder before he was shot in the face at a Carriage Lane apartment complex in September 2020.
Investigators say cellphone records, surveillance video and recorded jail calls connect Flores to the shooting. Flores has denied pulling the trigger. One of the main motions argued Tuesday focused on whether the trial could continue without Flores physically present in court.
Prosecutors presented Ring camera footage they say showed Flores at home after court proceedings had already begun Tuesday morning. Her defense team argued Flores had been notified about the court, but not that the trial could continue in her absence.
Jennifer McCoy ultimately ruled that the trial could move forward without Flores present.
Attorneys also argued over statements connected to co-defendant Deshawn Waring and whether some of those statements could be used during trial despite Waring not being present in court.
Additional motions focused on witness issues, including whether the victim’s stepmother could remain inside the courtroom before and after her testimony.
Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday morning as attorneys continue working through additional motions in the case.
