COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A Columbia vape shop is now closed after its owner was indicted in March on over 40 counts related to illegal marijuana sales.
Jay’s Vape Shop and Wellness Center has closed, according to a sign posted on the front door of the Gadsen Street store.
“CLOSED!! Reopen date: soon,” the sign read.
The closure comes after owner Jay Kalin was indicted on March 26 on 42 total counts relating to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and THC.
Kalin’s arrest was part of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office’s larger “Operation Ganjapreneur,” which saw 12 people arrested on a total of 70 charges relating to the possession and sale of illegal drugs.
Kalin was not among the original 12 arrests made in December 2025.
According to the attorney general’s office, law enforcement officers searched Kalin’s business on Dec. 9, 2025, and reportedly seized more than 10 pounds of illegal THC products.
State business filings do not show Jay’s Vape Shop and Wellness as having an active business license as of May 4.
WIS has reached out to the City of Columbia for more information on Kalin’s licenses within the city, including his bar located on Gervais Street. Records from the South Carolina Department of Revenue show the bar’s alcohol license has been suspended since April 3.
The City of Columbia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
