An April 19 fire caused severe damage to a portion of the Cannabist dispensary in Jefferson Park — just a few weeks after the marijuana dispensary had been damaged when a reported stolen vehicle was driven into one of its storefronts as part of an apparent failed burglary attempt.
The fire appeared to be centered in the dispensary storefront at 4760 N. Milwaukee Ave., while its storefront at 4758 N. Milwaukee remains boarded up from the burglary attempt on March 26, where the driver walked away, leaving the vehicle completely inside the dispensary. It is suspected that the driver did not realize there were multiple layers of security inside the dispensary and left without taking anything, according to Chicago police.
Details of the fire were unavailable, but the boarding up of the storefront at 4760 N. Milwaukee reportedly was starting at about 9 a.m. Saturday.
Meanwhile, a special use is being sought for a change in the operator of the dispensary. C3 Illinois Retail LLC & C3 Industries Inc. have filed the special use application, which will have to be approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals after a public hearing is held.
A medical marijuana dispensary, which initially was initially named Columbia Care Illinois, opened at 4758 N. Milwaukee in 2016 and was later expanded to the second storefront. It also now offers products for recreational use.
