TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. — FLUENT Cannabis on state Route 28, Ulster County’s only licensed medical cannabis dispensary, is closed.
A click on the Kingston dispensary link on the FLUENT website takes visitors to a page that reads, “Oops! What you are looking for doesn’t exist.”
A “Closed” sign was seen Monday afternoon and Tuesday night in the dispensary window during what were normal business hours, and a large business sign on the front lawn appears to have blown down and is now propped against the side of the building. The corporate website no longer lists the town of Ulster dispensary, and the state Office of Cannabis Management appears to have removed FLUENT from its licensed medical dispensary list.
A FLUENT spokesperson could not immediately be reached by phone or email on Tuesday, May 5. The dispensary employed at least one pharmacist and several budtenders. The business was originally owned and operated under the name Etain. In July 2025, the Cannabis Business Times said FLUENT in Ulster County was “the company’s first adult-use storefront in the state to officially transition (from Etain) under the FLUENT name.”
Reached via email, a spokesperson for the state Office of Cannabis Management would not confirm the closure or discuss the impact of a lack of medical marijuana facilities in Ulster County.
Aside from the Kingston site and one in White Plains that remains open, FLUENT has stores in Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Other dispensaries in the region — all recreational — include Catskill Mountain High and Lucky Green Ladies in Kingston, Domes Dispensary and Canna Planet in the town of Ulster, Royal Blend in Rosendale, HERbal Woodstock in Woodstock, Big Gas Dispensary in New Paltz, Back Home Dispensary in Stone Ridge, and Canna Planet in Ellenville. In Northern Dutchess County, Upstate Pines and Lofty Supply dispensaries are both open in Red Hook.
