MAY 12, 2026 – A CBP K-9 named Letti seized 83.7 pounds of marijuana after alerting officers during a warehouse sweep at Port Everglades, officials said. (CBP)
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) — Nearly 84 pounds of marijuana during a recent operation at Port Everglades, thanks to the nose of a Customs Border Patrol K-9.
On Tuesday, the Director of Field Operations announced on X that K-9 Letti, a CBP detection dog assigned to the Office of Field Operations, alerted officers to the presence of narcotics while conducting a sweep of a warehouse at the port. The alert led to the discovery and seizure of 83.7 pounds of marijuana concealed inside the facility.
Port Everglades is one of South Florida's busiest cargo hubs, processing millions of tons of cargo each year. CBP officials say routine inspections and enforcement operations at the port are critical to preventing illegal drugs and other contraband from entering the United States.
