The city of Hamilton could take a big step towards reversing a long-standing ban on marijuana dispensaries.
Hamilton has kept any sort of dispensary banned from within city limits since 2015, before even medical marijuana was allowed in Ohio.
Now, with both medical and recreational marijuana available in the state, city council is reconsidering.
Wednesday, council members will be holding a first reading on a plan that would allow permits for dispensaries, but the rules would be stricter than what’s in place under state law.
Dispensaries would need to be at least 1,000 feet from any school or childcare facility.
Additionally, dispensaries would still need to be banned from historic districts and from being next to residential areas.
That first reading, and a public hearing on the plan, is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
