DEPUTIES DISCOVER LARGE INDOOR MARIJUANA GROW OPERATION NEAR LIVINGSTON
— A large indoor marijuana cultivation operation was discovered May 5 after neighbors reported suspicious activity at a property just outside the Livingston city limits.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Narcotics Division and State CID responded to complaints about a persistent marijuana odor and frequent traffic to and from a location off U.S. Highway 59.
Neighbors reported seeing vans and box trucks arriving at the property during early morning hours.
Investigators made contact with Elier Jimenez, a Cuban national who lived at the residence.
A search warrant was executed at the property.
Authorities say they found more than 1,500 marijuana plants inside multiple buildings on the premises.
Jimenez was charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds, a second-degree felony under Texas law.
Sheriff Lyons stated that although public opinions on marijuana possession may differ, it remains illegal in Texas and has been linked to several serious crimes in Polk County. He added that when illegal activity begins impacting surrounding neighborhoods, the issue extends beyond simple marijuana possession.
