HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Three people have been arrested after investigators say they were found loading boxes and bags of drugs from an apartment into their vehicles.
Jorge Benitez, Giselle Galvan and Flor Hurtado are all facing drug-related charges, according to a probable cause affidavit. They were the subject of a multi-month investigation by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. A narcotics search warrant was issued and executed on an apartment at 601 Industrial Drive West. While the search warrant was still being signed, an investigator was surveilling Benitez, Galvan and Hurtado. The investigator saw that Hurtado was loading up what he believed was a large black bag of marijuana and THC into a vehicle. Then he saw Benitez carrying out large boxes of what he believed were THC products to Hurtado’s white car and Benitez’s blue truck.
As they were continuing to load the items into the vehicles, the officer spoke with them and detained them.
When other officers arrived, the apartment was cleared. There were no other people inside, so they began to process the scene. The investigator took pictures as he located things in the apartment, including cocaine, cash, a money counter, psilocybin mushrooms, a Glock pistol, radical firearms, AR pistol, GLFA Sparta, AR pistol, jewelry, digital scales, a drug ledger, and marijuana, according to the affidavit.
When Hurtado’s car was searched, the following items were found: TCH vape pens, cash, and marijuana in a large black trash bag, the document said.
The suspected cocaine weighed about 309 grams in its packaging, the mushrooms weighed in at about 73 grams, the marijuana weighed about 15 pounds, and there were 1,677 grams of THC, according to the affidavit.
In an office inside the searched apartment, there was found a ledger, with goal entries. The goals were items such as “invest in something other than bud,” “hit $60K cash”, “Hit $80K cash”, “hit $100K cash,” etc. There was a check mark beside the “hit $60K cash” entry, the affidavit said.
The alleged drug offenses happened within 844 feet of Sulphur Springs Elementary School, the affidavit said.
The sheriff’s office believes that the evidence showed that all three suspects conspired to move the narcotics out of the apartment.
Benitez, Galvan and Hurtado were arrested and charged with manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance PG1, manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance PG2, and possession of marijuana.
Flor Hurtado was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on May 4 and bonded out on May 6.
Giselle Galvan was booked on the same charges and also on a charge of money laundering. She remains in the Hopkins County Jail on a $350,000 bond.
Jorge Benitez was also charged with three manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance charges, as well as money laundering. His bond is set at $350,000. According to jail records, he remains in the Hopkins County Jail.
