ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) – Two women were arrested over the weekend, accused of bringing in marijuana with the intent to distribute at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel.
According to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, Shermaniqua Smith, 26, and Marshayla Blade, 23, both arrived at the facility on Saturday for a visit. That’s when contraband was found during a routine screening.
Both women were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and introduction of contraband into a penal institution. They are from the Shreveport area.
The WAFB I-TEAM has reported extensively on problems at Elayn Hunt with suspected overdoses, unexpected deaths, and, most recently, deployments of Narcan at the facility.
